April is back with an event we look forward to every year on the Costa Brava: Vívid. This initiative of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava de Girona offers a selection of wine tourism activities on the Costa Brava in April.
So if you like wine experiences, be they gastronomic, cultural or scenic, April is the time to organise your getaway on the Costa Brava. How about booking accommodation here so that you can take part in more than one activity and make the most of the experience?
We have decided to help you with the organisation by compiling here a selection of activities and accommodation for your wine tourism trip.
Wine tourism excursions in Alt Empordà
First, we have compiled the wine tourism activities in Alt Empordà (or at its border), 30 minutes or less from our Camping Sènia Riu. In fact, most of the experiences proposed in the Vívid 2023 programme will take place in this region. So you can take advantage of Easter to take part in some of them, or you can come on another weekend in April for a wine tourism break on the Costa Brava.
- Wine sketching and illustrated tasting - Saturday, 8 April at 10 am - Vilajuïga (25 minutes from Camping Riu)
A creative offer for everyone at the Espelt wine cellar: a workshop led by Maru Godas with a wine tasting paired with paintings and landscapes. A different way to immerse yourself in the world of art and wine.
- Tasting of ten: 10 years, 10 wines - Saturday 8 April at 5.30pm - Peralada (25 minutes from Camping Riu)
Tasting of 10 wines from the DO Empordà with sommelier Josep Miquel Guasch at the Sant Domènec monastery in Peralada to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vívid Festival.
- Breakfast at Celler Mas Geli with chef Iolanda Bustos - Sunday 9 April at 9.30 am - Pals (30 minutes from Camping Riu)
Esmorzar de forquilla (breakfast with knife and fork) in the middle of the vineyards, a free buffet with 9 dishes prepared by chef Iolanda Bustos, with wine pairings from the cellar.
- Breakfast at Mas Llunes Wine Cellar with Chef Pep Piernau - Saturday 15 April at 9.30 am - Garriguella (25 minutes by car from Camping Riu).
Esmorzar de forquilla (knife and fork breakfast) in the middle of the vineyards, a menu of starters, main course and desserts prepared by chef Pep Piernau, with food and wine accompaniment to discover the wines of the cellar.
- Star experience by Toni Gerez; tasting of Peralada wines and cheeses - Saturday 15 April at 11 am - Peralada (20 minutes drive from Camping Riu)
At the castle of Peralada you will taste cheeses selected by the Michelin-starred maître d' Toni Gerez, accompanied by carefully selected wines.
- Wine, Dalí and his surroundings - Saturday 15 April at 11:00 - Cadaqués (30 minutes from Camping Riu)
After a guided tour of the Celler Martin Faixó, you will taste wines with an aperitif. You will also have time to explore the Pla de Tudela with a guide equipped with photographs by Salvador Dalí.
- Pixavins: "Wine can be so random" - Saturday 15 April at 12.00 - Sant Pere Pescador (2 minutes by car/15 minutes on foot from Camping Riu)
A tasting of 4 original DO Empordà wines with humourist Albert Roig.
- Speed Dating, Speed Tasting - Saturday 15 April at 6.30pm - Pals (30 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
Singles, couples or groups of friends are welcome to this speed dating event to get to know each other through wine. After a guided tour of the Mas Geli vineyards, you'll get to know a different person with each new wine.
- Gastro breakfast - Saturday 22 April at 9.30 am - Garriguella (25 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
A breakfast prepared by chef Carles Roig with wines from the Gerisena winery, accompanied by instrumental music, in the restaurant of the agricultural cooperative of Garriguella.
- Oyster and wine tasting - Saturday 22 April at 6pm - Capmany (30 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
An exceptional event at Agrobodega El Parral: oyster and DO Empordà wine tasting with live DJ session at sunset.
- Wine Sunset at Finca Furot - Saturday 22 April at 6.30pm - Vilamaniscle (30 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
Enjoy the sunset amidst vineyards and olive groves while tasting the wines of Finca Furot, with snacks and a concert by Laura Guerrero.
- Breakfast at Celler Pere Guardiola with Chef Carles Roig - Saturday 29 April at 9.30am - Capmany (35 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
Esmorzar de forquilla (breakfast with knife and fork) in the middle of the vineyards to enjoy the wines and cuisine of the Empordà with Chef Carles Roig.
- Musical pairing with "The Tasting Band" at the Wine Palace in L'Escala - Friday 28 April at 7.30pm - L'Escala (18 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
An original way of tasting wine, paired with songs that match the sensations they convey. Followed by a concert with tapas.
- Blossom from the air - Saturday 29 April at 7pm - Garriguella (30 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
A unique experience with an aperitif with Empordàlia wines, followed by a balloon ride to see the blossom from the air.
- VioDIVERSITY at Celler Mas Llunes - Sunday 30 April at 9.30 am - Garriguella (25 minutes from Camping Riu)
An ideal family activity to get closer to nature. On a 2-hour hike (medium difficulty) you will get to know the surroundings of Mas Llunes, its fauna and flora, and the measures taken to restore biodiversity in the area. Breakfast and wine tasting included.
- 9th DO Empordà Wine Fair in Roses - Sunday, 30 April at 11 am - Roses (20 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
The DO Empordà Wine Fair and the participating wineries await you on this day in the Citadel of Roses to taste their products.
- Bibendum: Wine Evening in Empúries - Sunday, 30 April at 6.30 pm - L'Escala (15 minutes by car from Camping Riu)
An exceptional visit to the ruins of Empúries, with an archaeologist and sommelier who will tell you all the secrets of the town. Includes a tasting of three DO Empordà wines with a Greco-Roman flavour.
In this region, we recommend booking accommodation at Camping Sènia Riu, which is close to many of these activities and opens on 6 April. At this campsite you will find different types of accommodation in a unique natural environment.
Whether you come as a couple, with friends or as a family, we have the right accommodation for you. Here are some examples:
- The Terra Bungalow is best if you are travelling as a couple. It is a luxurious bungalow with a modern design, a Jacuzzi and a window on the ceiling of the bedroom: taste wines, let your soul dangle in the bubbles and gaze at the stars from your bed... Can anyone imagine a better setting for a romantic getaway?
- The Bora Bungalow, as the name suggests, is ideal if you come as a family. It has two bedrooms, one with 3 single beds, where the children will enjoy themselves as if they were at a holiday camp.
- The Aura Plus AC Mobile Home is perfect if you are a group of friends, for example 3 couples, as it has 3 bedrooms
- The Marina Mobile Home is for you if you come with your pet. With two bedrooms and everything you need for your stay, it is the only accommodation where dogs are allowed.
Wine tourism in Baix Empordà
Now we have also found some very interesting wine tourism activities in Baix Empordà. We recommend staying at Camping Sènia Cala Gogo or Camping Sènia Internacional, both located in Calonge, a village also known for its wineries.

An active wine tourism experience: you follow a 5 km route through vineyards and olive groves, passing by the Clos d'Agon and Celler Viníric farms where you can taste their wines.

From the vineyard to the cellar, learn about the winemaking process with a tasting of 3 wines paired with 3 wildflower tapas.

Xavier Graset himself will be leading this DO Empordà wine tasting in the auditorium of Vins i Licors Grau.

Guided tour of the Torre de les Hores and wine tasting - Sunday 30 April at 11am - Pals (25 minutes from Cala Gogo and Internacional).
Taste wines from Celler Mas Geli under the Torre de les Hores in Pals. There you will visit the tower and discover the landscapes and some antiques, testimonies of the wine culture of this region.
Sènia Cala Gogo and Sènia Internacional also have many different types of accommodation. Here we recommend a small selection according to your profile, but don't hesitate to check availability on the dates you want, you may find one that best suits your needs.
