The Medes Islands are located one kilometer off the coast of L'Estartit, about 30 km away from
Campsite Sènia Riu. If you are staying at the campsite, it is a mandatory excursion.
It is an archipelago of seven islets with an exceptional seabed, which allows it to be part of a natural park. The environmental protection of the Medes Islands began in 1983 with the Generalitat de Catalunya, and allowed the restoration of an incomparable natural wealth.
These islands have been uninhabited since 1934, when their last inhabitants left. Before that, it welcomed Greek ships, pirates, but also military men in the 19th century. Today, you can reach it by boat to discover its incredible underwater flora and fauna.
We advise you to inform yourself before about what you can do and what you can't do because it is a regulated diving zone. But it is possible to dive to get closer to this gem and observe its corals, algae, starfish, fish... If you don't feel like getting wet, enjoy a boat trip with transparent floors, an entertaining experience for the whole family.
