Torre Valentina

Torre Valentina is an old watchtower that stands at the end of the boulevard of Sant Antoni de Calonge. In fact, the neighborhood and the beach owe their name to this tower.

This emblematic tower has been decisive in protecting the city against pirate attacks since the 16th century, along with two other towers: the Torre del Baró and the Torre del Mal Ús. In case of an attack, the inhabitants of the municipality could hide inside and attack from there if necessary. In addition, the Valentina Tower, located on the coast, also served as a lookout. It has three floors connected by wooden stairs and shutters, and a roof terrace.

When you get close to Torre Valentina you will see that the entrance door is very high! And to make it difficult for attackers to enter, it was only accessible by a rope or ladder, which was removed by the guard after he climbed up.

Until 1960, the tower stood next to a Catalan farmhouse known as El Racó. Today it no longer exists and the tower is surrounded by apartments.

It is without a doubt a very beautiful area for walking: it is also the starting point of a part of the coastal path, that runs along the coast with incredible views. Don't miss it if you come to Campsite Sènia Cala Gogo Internacional, it's a very nice excursion, which you can finish with a meal or snack in one of the restaurants and bars along the long promenade of Sant Antoni de Calonge.

In addition, the beach of Torre Valentina, about 600 meters long, is very clear, with golden sand, underwater fauna that is easy to observe, play areas for children, showers, lifeguards, ramps and chairs for people with reduced mobility... It is a beach where people go with families, because it is easily accessible, flat, with a lot of space and a beautiful views of the whole bay of Palamós. So if you want to discover the beaches around Camping Sènia Cala Gogo Internacional, this is one you must see.
